[WIP] Atlas: Tokubetsu Gakuen

I used a manga idea I have had for quite some time and started this game - and surprisingly, the whole concept works much better as a visual novel than it would have worked as a manga!

EDIT: Working download link this time...

This was hammered together in two days. I didn't want to use stock characters, but wanted to start right away, so I made some dummies (black&white ghost people ftw!) with different expressions. I figured I could always exchange them later for real images after the game was done. For easier distingishability (is that a word?) I labeled them: SC is the Player Character, G1-4 are Girls 1-4 :-) I plan to use at least six girls in the final game. Eight, if I can.

This is only "chapter 0", the intro. It has some gameplay (except "click and read" I mean), and most choices will already influence the later gameplay. I playtested all paths, but there might still be stuff I overlooked.
There were some major problems, including Novelty crashing whenever I inserted an "actor leave" and tried to do anything after that, so I had to leave those commands out after all was done on the page and insert them end to beginning afterwards. Nasty bug that cost me the better part of today.

If you have comments about the storytelling, the presentation or anything else, let me know!

you forgot to put the fmodex.dll into your file(the downloadable file)..it cannot run without it...
I managed to play it by putting my own fmodex.dll,

6 Girls or EIGHT??..wow, getting to finish one girl story for me is hard with all the CG's and character emotions, and unique story line for each...good luck and hope you finish it  ...

The story is nice, Adding a boy side kick is nice "a close friend perhaps",. He should have been friends with at least one of his own kind.

OverAll, I think this would turn up to be a very good visual novel,.

Thank you :-)
I have no idea what you are talking about when you say I forgot a dll, I just included the files in the build folder  Seems like I have to take a look at that.

Well, six or eight girls sounds like much, but with that many images for a full-fledged visual novel, drawing a few more characters and their expressions isn't that much extra work. And I think that stories write themselves for the most part, putting it into Novelty is just routine once you get the hang of the program ;) The nice thing as it's working is, I can make one girl's story, then the next one, and so on.

Yes, I hope I finish it, too. But I think the chances are higher than when I tried my luck with an AGS point-n-click-adventure, because there you have to have the graphics to even start any coding, which tired me out pretty quickly. This time I will write the story, and when it's finished I will either draw the pictures or get someone else to do that.

I figured a boy supporting character would be good, but I probably shouldn't introduce him until . ;)

Here's the revised version, with the DLL and also enhanced user interface showing/hiding effects. Fancy name for sliding instead of popping up, eh?

The current Version is 0.1.4 (1 chapter and 4 pages of the next one done) and the story has advanced a lot with the story script finished for the Rest of chapter 1, but there will be no playable demo that shows more than Chapter 0 (i.e., this) for a while. Mainly because I don't want people to play most of the game with dummy graphics

Nothing really new to present, just reporting back to let you know I'm still working on this.

I found a good graphic artist to work with me who is proficient with CG works and has proven herself able to work continuously on a project. Because she doesn't understand English very well, I had to translate the dialogue so far into German so she can follow the story.
Expect the dummy graphics to change into real ones as images are being made 8-)

Current Version is 0.1.6, with plot planned and flowcharted up to 0.2.5. If I follow my ideas for the plot, I will have to use scripts, so I need to read into that, as well. Hopefully, it won't be that much of an obstacle.

Nice, I will surely play the game after you have finished it. keep it up since so few did actually "keep it up"

I know what you mean... it's very tempting to start something once you have the opportunity, and then lose interest. I see some troubles ahead too, because of the minigame I'm planning to put in, but it will take some more weeks of "coding" to get to that point. Having an artist who wants to support me sure gives a motivation boost :-)
Looks like my windows died today, and I can't find my Windows CD any more, so I'm not sure when I will be able to reinstall it - need to backup a load of data too before formatting, no idea how  BUT the good news is that all my novelty data is on an external hard drive! So I can use the PC I'm currently at to work on the game.
