Final fantasy 13

Has anyone played it yet? I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. It seems to be a pretty divisive game since it's not what anyone would call a traditional FF.

The biggest criticism against the game is that it's super linear and the story is too convoluted and I whole-heartedly agree.
I'm just over the 20 hour mark now and the game has finally begun to open up. The story has been explained enough where I actually understand some of it. Hope stopped being a cry baby and Vanille talks less. I like the battle system too, though not as much as I did in FF12.

I actually was wondering about this game since there's so many weird design decisions O.o I mean I don't mind a linear story (actually that tends to make the story more exciting) but it seems to have the GTAIV syndrome of taking you by the hand and not letting go till half way through the game. So I had a couple of questions...(I know you asked a question but since I haven't played it yet I can't give my opinion =P)

First off is the character customization really limited till 15 hours in or so? For me that's a pretty important aspect in RPGs so being told what to level up for a lond time seems really weird since it would make the characters very specialized (making it pointless to level up multiple classes for one character).

Also how annoying is Hope? I heard his voice and it seems decent enough but he does seem to be that kid that's in every JRPG...you know the one, the really annoying one that you wish either dies a few hours (or minutes) into the game or suddenly vanishes because it was a bug O.o (I can dream)

Those are basically the two things that put me off this game...well that and the lack of towns...

Thanks for answering (if someone does XD)

Hope isn't nearly as annoying as Vanille. He starts out Emo, which is why I hated him so much in the beginning of the game but he redeems himself later on and as soon as he starts pulling his own weight he becomes a great character. I like his voice.

Like I said on my : I think Vanille's voice ruins every cutscene she's in. I'm not joking. Her awefulness is .

As for linearity. 15 hours is only if you rush it. Expect 20-25 hours until you reach the "fun" areas. There the game feels more FF-ish and you can go on missions, ride chocobos and search for treasure!.
I'm also a story-person and I don't like games like GTA4 specifically because of their where-do-I-go-next?-ness.

Unfortunately, in FF13 it takes a good solid 30 hours before you can even comprehend what's going on. It's extremely cryptic through-out the first half of the game.
The cut-scenes only adds more questions and Vanille's voice tarnish everything.

The worst part about the first half of the game is that you're a party of six character, but you're constantly being split up and you only play as two at once. It's like you build up a character
and then the game forces you to play with your two worst.. and fight a boss.

These are my main complaints. They don't make it a terrible game to play, but you really need to know about these before you start playing.

..that said, I'm about 55 hours into it right now and I wouldn't be putting all this time into it if it wasn't great in every other aspect.

I guess not XD

I actually just bought this game after selling a few others since they wouldn't give me money, only a discount (they forced me too T.T). I hope I'll like it since this is the only FF game I've ever been mildly interested in...only problem is I still don't have a PS3 XD I'll get that some time next week (hopefully) so I'll see whether it was worth buying the game or if it's a waste of €45...better not be...hate wasting money...though I doubt anyone likes to waste money O.o

*Checks date of your last post* Yeah yeah, you can't fool me, you didn't finish it =P Anyway have you never played a Tales of game? Like Tales of Symphonia or Tales of Vesperia? If you haven't....do it....do it now...go out and buy the game...DO IT O.o If you have and didn't like them well em...shame on you T.T

Anyway gonna get a PS3 tomorrow for my birthday (yay), can't wait ^^.

He he. No joke. It's not a hard game to finish since it's holding your hand through-out.
Most RPGs tends to get too hard by around the halfway point (usually some ridiculous boss). FF13 didn't have that, hence why I finished it.

9 is my favorite. Again, 13 was the first one I actually finished.

How many of them have you played?

1, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12.
9 is my favorite, I think. I really liked 6 and 12.. but no one has ever carried my motivation through-out the entire game.

XI was (and is) a load of shit.

11 was a load of crock. Very disappointing... D=

I'm surprised you didn't list 10. I totally recommend that one too. In fact, if I had to recommend a top three for the entire franchise, it would be: VIII, X and VII.
