Hatsune Miku - Project Diva: surprisingly awesome

I started playing this yesterday and couldn't stop until the batteries had almost ran out and my brain was starting to hurt.
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva is a rhythm-game for the PSP featuring Vocaloid's fake vocals mascot Hatsune Miku.

I was surprised to see that this is actually a really good game. The songs are really good and each one is like a music video with professional editing and choreographed dancing. Heck, even the is cute!

I wasn't a Miku-tard before but this game is turning me into one xD

I don't speak japanese and I've 100%:ed both games. The only written japanese is in the menus and all you need to know is to recognize the japanese words for "load" (rodo) and "save" (sebu).

As with any japanese game it's littered with casual english, like when you beat a song Miku will say "Guureito!" (Great) or "Ekusurento!" (Excellent).

Obviously you don't need to speak japanese to enjoy the music and dance choreography. Oh and all PSP games are region free.

Finally, here's one of my favorite performances from the DVD:

Have you purchased the PS3 upgrade package from PSN?
I bought it a few months ago and it is worth every yen! Miku on the big screen! (I have yet to play it on my projector, but I'm sure to after uni is over)

The one for 2nd comes out soon/now.

The project diva 2nd concert wasn't as good as the last one, this time 5pb was the event manager instead of SEGA and it really shows... budget cuts here and there.

Also, the SEGA owned CGI house was contracted to do the animations this year instead of the game engine - while the graphics themselves are rendered nicer the animation from the game engine was really a lot more human looking - on the first concert you could really believe they were on the stage!

You can create a Japanese account even if you are outside of Japan - a Warning though - your PSP can only be activated to a single PSP account at a time, and in order for Project Diva to work the profile the same profile must be in use on both consoles (It's no problem for the PS3 because you can activate to more than one account)

All you need to buy the game is an address in Japan (enter sony HQ's own address - it always works - hotels etc generally dont)
And also some Japanese PSN credits - you can buy credit codes on ebay and the seller will email the voucher code to you.

The news just broke on Miku's official site that the Project Diva concert will be performed at this year's Los Angeles Anime Expo.

How cool is that huh?

I wonder if there will be any new English songs? Miku's english language version is set to release soon!

This also explains the clips of Hatsune Miku driving in the Toyota Corolla american TV commercial

Yeah that commercial was terrible. They had a really weird mix of World is Mine that sounded off-beat and off-key. Basically, whoever made it fucked it up and isn't very good at their job.

I have the concert DVD and it's a blast to watch. Makes me wish I could go. The Japanese crowd helped raise the roof too. I hope the Americans can bring the same energy.
